日本制钢所：中国对手正构成巨大威胁

The dominance of Japan Steel Works in a key segment of the nuclear industry is being eroded by Chinese competitors capitalising on the country’s booming demand for nuclear power, according to its president.
日本制钢所(Japan Steel Works)总裁Ikuo Sato表示，该公司在核能行业关键领域的统治地位，正受到中国竞争者的侵蚀，这些中国企业正利用本国日益旺盛的核能需求快速扩张。

Ikuo Sato told the Financial Times that China was spawning a number of new players in the specialised business of making large and strong steel components for nuclear pressure vessels, a field where JSW is by some way the world leader.

In most instances of new nuclear power stations built anywhere in the world, JSW wins some share of the contract because of its dominance in supplying such an important component of the power station.
由于在为核电站供应重要铸锻件方面的主宰地位，日本制钢所在全球多数新建核电站项目中都会获得部分合同。

With power stations built for China, local companies generally win some part of the contracts for smaller pressure vessel parts, and as a result they gradually learn how to make bigger components, according to Mr Sato.

China has the world’s largest nuclear plant building programme, with 23 reactors, almost half the world’s annual total, under construction, and another 120 in the planning stage.

Mr Sato did not name the Chinese competitors that he expects to soon rival JSW, but he said they were gathering experience on the basis of work on new nuclear reactors commissioned by Chinese power companies including Dongfang Electric, Harbin Electric and Shanghai Electric.

Unlike in some areas of industry where Japanese companies have made thinly veiled accusations that their Chinese rivals have copied or even stolen their technology, Mr Sato made no complaints that the emergence of new Chinese businesses in the nuclear field was anything other than part of normal business activity.

“Many Chinese companies have some expertise in making small parts for nuclear reactors and they are gradually building up experience in making the larger components as China’s nuclear programme expands,” Mr Sato said.

“I feel there are a lot of Chinese competitors which are going to be big threats for us in a few years’ time,” Mr Sato said.
