迎奥运，学英语，这也是我们每一个北京人，中国人都可以为奥运所尽的微薄之力吧：

从今天起到奥运会结束，我们定期都会在这个帖子里学习一些跟奥运有关系的单词或者语句，大家也可以在这里互相交流彼此遇到的问题和困惑。

今天的第一个单词就是 火炬接力：Torch Relay

来历：
        火炬接力部门负责设计和组织奥林匹克圣火从希腊的奥林匹亚到奥运会举办国，以及环绕国内，最后抵达奥林匹克体育场的火炬传递路线和相关活动。组委会可以成立专门部门。

　　The Torch Relay area is responsible for the planning and activities related to the passage of the Olympic flame from Olympia in Greece to and around the host country, up to the Olympic stadium. The OCOG may establish a functional area dealing with Torch Relay aspects.

例句：
The Olympic global troch relay will cover 137,000 kilometers before the flame returns to Beijing.

今天介绍部分奥运场馆的说法:

1. Beijing National Stadium (Bird's Nest/Olympic Stadium) 也就是我们常说的"鸟巢"
--- The Beijing National Stadium, also known as the bird's nest will be the main track and field stadium for the 2008 Summer Olympics and will be host to the Opening and Closing ceremonies.

2. Water Cube / National Aquatics Center 又称"水立方"
--- The National Aquatics Center, also known as the "Water Cube", is preparing to host several swimming events.

3. Wukesong Indoor Stadium 五棵松体育馆(奥运篮球馆)
--- Wukesong Indoor Stadium is the official venue for the 29th Olympic basketball game. Also, the stadium, which includes Wukesong Indoor Stadium, Wukesong Baseball Fields, and sports and commercial facilities, will be able to meet the needs of residents in western Beiing.

4. Qingdao Olympic Sailing Center 青岛奥帆中心
--- Qingdao Olympic Sailing Center, the venue for the sailing competition at the 2008 Olympic Games, puts spectators first. The four competition venues are placed along the coastline and the main seawall is designed as a stand for spectators.

5. Peking University Gymnasium / "China Ridge" 北京大学体育馆
--- Peking University Gymnasium, nicknamed "China Ridge" is located on the Peking University campus and will host table tennis events.

今天我们要了解的知识就是有关奥运会会吉祥物的说法.

奥运会吉祥物的统称应该是 Olympic Mascot, 该词源于FaGuo普罗旺斯语Mascotto,直到19世纪末才被正式以Mascotte的拼写收入法文词典,英文Mascot由此衍变而来,意能带来吉祥、好运的人、动物或东西。
而在北京即将举办的第29届奥运会,众所周知吉祥物是五个憨态可掬的福娃，他们的说法可以有两种，一个是Five Friendies , Lucky baby 或者简单称之为 Fu Wa.
