John, would you pass the salt (pepper, butter, sugar) to me, please ?”

或“May I smoke?”等大家回答:“Not at all.”或“Go ahead, please.”

Traveler(A): I want a table for two, please.

Head Waiter: Yes, sir. Right this way, please... There is a nice view of the city from this table.

T(A): Splendid! Now, what shall we have for dinner this evening? What do you have today?

Waiter: Here's the menu... May I take your order?

T(A): I'd like a fruit cup, lobster with string beans, and French fried potatoes.

Traveler(B): I'll have a bowl of tomato soup and a nice steak with carrots and a baked potato.

W: How would you like your steak?

T(B): Well-done, please.

T(A): How about a green salad for each of us?

T(B): That's fine.

W: What would you like to drink?

T(A): Let's have some wine with the meal.

T(B): Yes, let's.

W: What would you like for dessert?

T(B): I'd like vanilla ice cream.

T(A): I'll have melon.

W: Certainly.

(While eating)

T(B): This steak tastes very good.

T(A): That's good. My lobster tastes good, too.

T(B): Will you please pass me the salt?

T(A): All right. Do you want the pepper, too?

T(B): No, thank you.

(After dinner)

T(A): That was a nice dinner.

T(B): It certainly was.

T(A): Waiter, please let me have the check.

W: Here you are, sir.

Traveler(A): Where shall we go tonight?

Traveler(B): Let's go out and have a drink.

T(A): That's a good idea.

T(B): I know where there's a nice bar just a few minutes from here. The atmosphere is interesting, and they serve good drinks.

T(A): Okay. Let's go there. But there's one condition. You're my guest tonight.

T(B): Oh, no. Let's split the bill.

T(A): No, no. I insist.

T(B): Well, if you insist....

(Inside the bar)

T(A): I'd like a mug of German beer. What can I get for you?

(B): Scotch on the rocks.

T(A): (To the bartender) Give us one mug of German dark beer and one Scotch on the rocks.

Bartender: Just a moment, sir.... Here you are. One dollar and fifty-five cents, please.

T(A): Here you are.

B: Thank you, sir.

T(A): Would you like another drink?

T(B): Well, I'd like to try a Manhattan.

T(A): I'll have the same. Waiter... Uh, excuse me, would you please give us two Manhattans.

B: All right, sir. One eighty, please.

T(A): Can you change this ten-dollar bill?

B: Certainly... Let's see. One eighty, two, three, four, five, and ten. Thank you, sir.

(After drinking)

T(A): How about another one?

T(B): No, thank you. I've had enough.

T(A): This is just right for me, too. Shall we go, then?

T(B): Yes, Thank you very much for your treat tonight.

T(A): Don't mention it. It was really nice to have your company.
