The Role of Social sciences and the humanities in the21st century
          The opinion that Social sciences and the humanities should play a more important role in 21st century has
recently come into public focus. A majority of people come to side with this point of view.
          Their reasons are primarily as the following. For one thing, there are currently some conflicts ofculture or
beliefs not only between people in the same society, but also between people from different countries in the
world. Social sciences and the humanities can provide better solutions to these problems through exchanging,
understanding, negotiating and so on than any other means. For the other thing, based on social sciences and the
humanities, some policies and regulations can be set up, which can lead us to good development of the society,
especially in 21st century.
           No one can deny another fact that social sciences and the humanities play a more importantrole than before
in construction of a harmonious society. We all know today that, as a result of the findings and promotion of
social science, the rights of migrant workers, such as getting salary and social welfare, are better protected than
before. All Chinese people, including rich and poor, can benefit from our economic development.
          As far as I am concerned, social sciences andthe humanities should play a more important role in the 21st
century.

Scholars Returning from Abroad
          These days, we often hear that many Chinese scholars are returning after they finish their study abroad. It is
a common thing that a number of people come back to the home country after graduating from foreign
universities which are located in almost all the developed countries.
          Why does such a thing occur more frequently than twenty years ago? First and foremost, with the economy
development in China, there are more and more opportunities for Chinese returners to realize their dreams,
giving some significant contributions in the field ofscience and technology, creating their own market.Secondly,
the current working conditions and business environment are totally different from those of the20th century. For
example, the top laboratories with modern equipments are currently popular in Chinese local universities and
R&D centers of multinational and local companies. Thirdly, if a foreign businessman attends some exhibition in
China, he can easily discuss local or overseas business with Chinese counterpart. It turns out that Chinese
returners can also succeed in the field of science and business as their competitors do in the developed countries.
Last but not least, if Chinese graduates work in foreign countries, they may meet some problems in terms of
culture conflict, language or race discrimination. As a result, more and more Chinese graduates return to China
for working with the mother tongue and our own culture.
           Regarding the significance, their return is positive and important both for the country and for the scholars
themselves. The country can benefit from the new technology, the new idea and the new method brought by them.
The scholars can get bigger space and more opportunities for personal and professional development in China. In
conclusion, I do believe that China will be more and more prosperous with the additional contribution of the
scholars returning from abroad.

的两句话中，有一个 that 引导的宾语从句、一个 It 为形式主语的主语从句、一个介词 after 加动词 ing 结
