美国正开始戒除它的外国石油“瘾”：随着油价上涨、节能汽车的推广和大量使用乙醇燃料，进口石油在美国石油消费总量中所占比例自1977年以来首次出现下降。
  The US is starting to break its “addiction” to foreign oil as high prices, more efficient cars, and the use of ethanol significantly cut the share of its oil imports for the first time since 1977.

   
美国能源部(Department of Energy)统计部门主管表示，到2015年，美国的外国石油依存度将从60%降至50%，但到2030年将会小幅回升至54%。
The country’s foreign oil dependency is expected to fall from 60 per cent to 50 per cent in 2015, before rising again slightly to 54 per cent in 2030, according to the head of the Department of Energy’s statistical arm.

The net imports of the world’s biggest consumer are expected to fall between now and 2030, ending what has been an almost relentless 30-year climb in the use of foreign oil and fall in domestic production. In 2006, George W. Bush said in his State of the Union speech that America was “addicted to oil” – often imported from unstable parts of the world – and said he would work to address the issue.

The US decline in foreign oil dependency is already becoming more visible, with imports making up 57.9 per cent in the first three months of this year, down from 58.2 last year. Guy Caruso, head of the US Energy Information Administration, told the Financial Times that that trend was set to continue as people adjusted to high oil prices and the impact of the Energy Independence and Security Act, which became law in December 2007, was felt.
