I really agree with this point of view. In fact, foreign languages are concrete tools for the diplomats to solve diplomatic problems with their counterparts. If a diplomat couldn't master a foreign language that is spoken in the country where he or she is working, there would be quite a lot of troubles ahead of him or her. Therefore, anyone who is willing to make a contribution to the foreign affairs of our motherland has to study foreign languages well. Otherwise, your ambitions will be day-dreams. On the other hand, I have to add that mastering foreign languages are not the mere qualifications for those who are getting involved into foreign affairs. This means that versatile knowledge and comprehensive abilities are especially important. In the practice of diplomacy, nobody can predict what situations will appear and nobody can make sure of finding a solution to some issues in a simple way. Comprehensive capabilites will help diplomats avoiding embarassments. In the end, I would like to say that learning foreign languages is the most important thing for the people who intend to do a credit for Chinese diplomacy. |
