Huaneng Renewables, the Chinese wind farm operator, has revived plans to go public in Hong Kong, six months after cancelling an earlier effort to list.
中国风力发电场运营商华能新能源公司(Huaneng Renewables)已重启赴港上市计划，该公司在六个月前曾取消在香港上市。

Huaneng Renewables, China’s third-biggest wind farm operator by capacity, aims to raise $800m to $1bn, according to a person familiar with the deal.

Its initial efforts to go public foundered in December when the company abruptly cancelled a planned $1.3bn listing, blaming “excessive market volatility”. This time Huaneng Renewables will seek to woo investors with a lower price to earnings ratio. Shares could price between 13-17 times 2011 p/e ratio, said a person close to the deal, down from 15-20 times in December.

Chinese wind stocks have risen since the crisis at the Fukushima Daiichi reactor in Japan, which prompted Beijing to freeze new approvals on nuclear plants. Rival Datang Corp Renewable, China’s second-biggest wind farm operator, has seen its share price rise in recent months and the stock is now trading 6 per cent above its December debut. Shares in Longyuan, China’s biggest wind farm operator, have also risen in value since March.

Huaneng Renewables plans to float 30 per cent of the company in its listing, while the remainder will be owned by its parent Huaneng Group, a state-owned company which is the biggest electricity generator in China. Huaneng began gauging investor interest in pre-marketing on Thursday and aims to list on June 10, according to a preliminary schedule seen by the Financial Times.
华能新能源计划在此次上市中发售30%的股份，其余部分将由母公司——中国最大发电商、国有的华能集团(Huaneng Group)拥有。根据英国《金融时报》看到的一份初步日程表，华能周四开始通过上市前的推广评估投资者兴趣，希望能在6月10日上市。

Morgan Stanley is the sole global co-ordinator and Macquarie, Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs and China International Capital Corporation are joint bookrunners for the listing. It is the latest in a string of initial public offerings in Hong Kong, where 17 new listings have raised $14.9bn this year, according to Dealogic.

Among those lining up for listings are suitcase manufacturer Samsonite, Italian fashion house Prada and MGM China.

China is the world’s largest investor in wind energy and has set ambitious targets for renewables. Beijing intends to draw 11.4 per cent of its power from non-fossil fuel sources by 2015, up from 8 per cent at present.

Wind farm operators have benefited from falling prices of wind turbines, although concerns remain about the number of wind farms standing idle in China because of the inability of the electrical grid to keep up with the rapid build-up of farms.
