国际关系《专业英语》课程教学大纲 任课老师：国际关系学院何佩群 课程编码：317.017.1一、课程内容：国际关系与公共事务学院的《专业英语》课程，是为本院本科三年级国际政治(国际关系)专业的学生开设的英语必修课程。整个学习课程为一学期。本课程以有一定英语基础，如通过英语四级考试，的学生为对象，通过一学期的学习，使学生掌握一定的专业知识和英语术语，对美国政治及其弱点有较深的了解，同时对美国的外交也有初步的了解。 二、课程结构和组织： 在学生预习的基础上，有重点地讲解一些难点、重要段落、历史事件和重要人物。组织学生就相关内容进行讨论，激发学生开动脑筋，发挥学习上的积极能动性。讲授涉及到课文内容的有关美国的生活、文化、习俗、语言等问题，使学生尽可能多地、全面地了解有关美国的政治、美国外交以及其他方面的知识，以便学生对美国有一个正确、全面的了解。 三、课程要求：在预习的基础上，培养自学的能力。上课注意力集中，积极参加讨论以提高会话能力、语言表达能力和对知识的掌握。课外要收集与相关事件和人物的补充材料。 四、成绩考核：考试。参考出席率和讨论的参与程度。 五、课时安排：1. Discussion on the betrayal of the grass roots; reading and explaining "the Crowning of Imperial Washington" and "the Rise of Washington's Parasite Culture" from pp. 30-38. 4. Discussion on parasite culture; reading "The Bipartisan Honey Pot and the Rise of 'Interest-group Centrism'" and "the Academic Revolutionaries" from pp. 38-48.5. Discussion on interest-group; reading and explaining "the Lessons of Other Capitals" and "the late-Twentieth-Century Debate over U.S. Decline" from pp. 48-60.6. Discussion on the lesson of other capitals and the debate over American economic decline; reading "Competing Interpretations of U.S. Decline" and "the "Linkage of Economic and Cultural Decline" from pp. 60-69.7. Discussion on the US. decline; reading "Great Economic-Power Decline and the Rise of Interest-group Internationalism" and "National Decline as a Political Crisis" from 69- 75.8-9 Discussion on U.S. Political decline; reading "the Principal Weaknesses of American Politics and Government from pp. 111-136.10-11 Discussion on the principal weakness; reading "the Fading of Anglo-American Institutions and World Supremacy" from 137-162.12-13 Discussion on the Fading of Anglo-American Institutions World Supremacy; reading "the 1990s: converging Revolutionary Traditions and Post-Cold War Jitters" from pp. 163-180.14-15 Discussion on revolutionary traditions and Post-Cold War Jitters; reading "Renewing American for the Twenty-first Century: The Blueprint for a Political Revolution" from pp. 181-214.16-17 Reading and discussion on "The Setting of American Foreign Policy" from pp. 3-16. **根据学期开始时间与学习情况，授课进度可能作相应调整。 六、使用教材： Phillips, Kevin (1994) Arrogant Capital: Washington, Wall Street, and the Frustration of American Politics, Boston: Little, Brown and companySchulzinger, Robert D.
