Institute of International and Public Affairs of Tongji University
Institute of International and Public Affairs (IIPA), Tongji University, was esblished on Demcember 16, 2008, which is a comprehensive academic institution with research, teaching, communication and consultation.
The goal of the IIPA is to build a new-style institute of international relations which is first class domestically and renowned internationally and to strive for making it become a cradle of training talents who are well versed in international affairs, a base for fostering senior research personnel in the field of international affairs, an international academic center for attracting scholars of international affairs at home and abroad, and a think tank offering decision-making consultation of international political affairs.
Studying: integrate and strengthen the various resources, to conduct continuing in-depth study of the international relations, international strategy, global affairs theory and practical problems. To integrate the inside and outside academic strength of our university, to organize and coordinate innovative groundbreaking research, and to form Tongji school of international relations studies. We will make our due contribution to building a system of international relations theory with Chinese characteristics.
Teaching: the courses such as German research, EU studies, Japanese studies, American studies, international relations theory, introduction to international strategy, international politics, international arms control, etc, are offered to undergraduates and graduates. We will make progress in the cohesion strength of international relations and international politics to form a high standard of teaching and academic research team.
Intercommunion: Promoting academic exchanges between international and domestic famous universities and think-tanks and national level government officials. Providing more platforms and chances of international and domestic exchanges for the teachers and students of Tongji University. By means of strengthening exchanges to increase the intensity of new resources, we enhance the level of the construction of various disciplines, train various types of personnel and promote the advancement of teaching and research level. International and domestic exchanges for promoting the construction of course and talents training will further enhance the reputation.
Consultation: Institute researchers use their expertise on international affairs to provide advices on decision-making for government and other sectors.
Institute of International and Public Affairs (IIPA) bends itself to further expanding international and domestic impact of Tongji university, to further strengthen the intercommunion between Tongji university and national level government officials, famous universitis and think banks, train compound talents with the quality of global vision, organizational and management capacity and both liberal arts and natural sciences.

研究院立足同济比较优势，以欧盟研究见长，以可持续发展为重点领域，走学术、智库、咨询三位一体发展道路，主要从事战略研究、政策咨询、企业顾问工作，为中国对欧战略、缩小中欧认知差距、江浙沪一带企业投资欧洲等提供学术和智力支持。
研究院成立伊始，就制定了以下目标。其一，依托中德学部、德国研究所等平台，以德国研究、中德关系和同济大学可持续发展的后发优势带动欧盟与中欧关系研究，力争成为以德国研究、欧盟研究见长、具有前沿视野和政策影响力的中国一流、世界知名的国际与公共事务研究院。其二，以中欧学术连线（CEAN）为主要平台，整合同济及国内欧洲研究资源，打通中国欧洲研究学术界与决策圈关系，建立与布鲁塞尔欧中学术连线（ECRAN）对话机制，使研究院成为中欧二轨对话平台和海内外知名的重要智库。
研究院直属同济高等研究院，依托政治与国际关系学院，联合了同济德国研究所/欧盟研究所、德国学术中心、中德学院、中意学院、中法中心、中芬中心等校内机构资源，共同打造同济国际研究、开展与欧洲合作的平台。研究院下辖欧洲研究中心、美国研究中心、中国外交研究中心、北约研究中心、极地政治研究所、军备与防扩散中心、全球治理研究中心、中国政治研究中心（筹）、中国社会研究中心（筹）。
