Luca di Montezemolo, the chairman of Ferrari and a former head of Italy’s employers confederation, told the Financial Times that the fact Italy had no industrial strategy was a “tragedy”. But he warned against “a knee-jerk populist protectionist reaction” on the part of the government that would damage the country’s interests given the heavy dependence of Italian industry on exports.
