In 2009, Mr Ho had a clot removed from his brain after a fall. The family battle is understood to have begun in December when one of his daughters, Daisy Ho, was blocked by the management of SJM from joining the board of the company. Ms Ho is the daughter of Mr Ho’s second wife, Lucina Laam.

In January, Mr Ho accused Ms Laam, his children with her, and his third wife Ina Chan, of improperly allotting thousands of shares in Lanceford without his knowledge, which diluted his stake to almost zero.
