Dear President,
I write this letter to you with deep gratitude and respect. I am the first guy translating your inaugural address into Chinese. The speech is not accessible to most Chinese through official news channel, yet we are lucky that we have internet.
I put the translation on www.beelinkclub.com and www.eyii.com 5 hours after I read it. And it was on many major BBS in China. The list includes:
www.cat898.com
www.tianyaclub.com
bbs1.tom.com
ehome.online.sh.cn
blog.bioon.com
Just to name a few.
Among this list I just traced the reaction from cat898.com. I was overwhelmed to see this fact and I want you to share this with me:
At 4pm Jan 22 local time, it first appeared on this BBS (cat898.com).It was like a huge storm on net. Only 5 hours later, there are over 3,000 hits and 146 replies. Readers run over 10,000 at about 10 hours after its appearance. Over 300 reply messages appeared. It was then locked by the website at hit rate of 18,000. Yet another copy reappeared immediately at 9pm Jan 21. It was locked again at 22:12pm Jan 23. The hit rate is 15,993! The story is not ending here. Yet another copy appeared at the same website. It is still on top of the message list. Till now, 10:00 am Jan 24 EST, there are 32,000 hits and it is growing!
What I witnessed is seldom seen in any Chinese website inside China, yet it happened right before my eyes. Folks are crying with tears. They are happy with tears, they are sleepless with tears! They see the light of hope you bring to their hearts. They see hopes of freed China! Lots of them showered their gratitude towards you and your country. They are not only showing their hearts to your great nation but also, showing their imperishable hope for freedom and for a democratic China! They see in your address a true force of liberty and they see you as an unparalleled world leader!
I was so humbled by the effect of my translation in China that I can only write this short letter to you. My president, our leader of the free countries and a coming free world. Please accept hearts of Chinese people. Please accept the honor that grows out of freedom loving people of my mother land. Yet in writing this letter, I have a wish that you will lead your country to bring the future you so plainly laid out in your address into reality. And I know this is also the wish of my people in China.
With deep respect, may I say I love you and people oppressed by tyranny in the world love you!
With honor and awe
Your sincerely.
Rain-tree.
Ps: I attached some of the reply I read in this letter. They are the voice of the People.
Shivering crow reply:
Rogue countries big or small,
It is time for your sun to set
The funeral horn has blown
For this coming destiny,
I, the old raven,
Cry out an ominous howl
Let the funeral begin!
Keep the article on top, let the tyranny tremble.
Thank you the translator.
Thank you, people of the United States of America, since the found of your country, you contribute greatly to freedom of human being, for this, you sacrifice too.
Hope that there will be one day, under your help, liberty, democracy and peace will prevail in every corner of the world.
Hope that one day, freedom, democracy and peace will always be at the center of my country’s officer’s inaugural speech.
Shivering crow reply:
I don’t have tear, yet I cried.
I cried, but without tears.
With a deep sorrow
Without any regret.
Without any hold back of my feeling,
Did I find my home?
I cry….
From ten o’clock till now (3:00am),I read the address over and over, read new colossal and read every reply on the net to the address. Sometimes I feel excited, sometimes exuberant, sometimes desperate, sometimes sorrow….never have I had any experience on net that can match today’s feelings. The address makes me ready to throw myself into a great journey!
But I don’t know tomorrow morning what will face me. Maybe nothing will change; maybe there will be a whole new ME.
Who knows.
Won’t-die reply:
I swear with my integrity.
Any time I can be online.
And this address is not deleted
I will push it to the top
Until the day people overcome
If I die
I will die facing the freedom
Let America know
I am with your belief.
Remotecity reply:
Unutterable sadness
Freedom
How much
Do you weigh?
Why do you only stall in that corner?
Why can’t we breath your breathe?
San-Gen-Lou reply:
Thank you rain-tree, great work!
We spent money yet can’t get this kind of address.
It was just three thousand words.
Our poli-beau report is always over ten thousands words.
In that we often saw the word “people”. But in this address, there are only 13 people. But freedom is mentioned over 44 times.
Thanks again.
Kong-Meng-is-disaster replay:
Read until I feel deeply sorrow, read until tears run down in stream!
