Abstract:Realists agree that power equilibrium is an ideal mode for preserving world stability, but their opinions are divided over the way such equilibrium is to be achieved- through mutual check of two power poles or a balance in the diversity of powers? This paper tries to argue that equilibrium cannot serve as the governing principle for a stable international order, but it is a good policy option for checking hegemony and power politics now rampant in the world.
