The patient, a 19-year-old student surnamed Lu, arrived in Beijing on May 8 on Flight AC029. On late May 10, Lu was found to have a fever accompanied by a sore throat, coughing, a stuffy nose and sneezing.
Lu took Train D41 to Jinan on May 11, the capital city of eastern China's Shandong Province. He was immediately isolated and sent for treatment after reporting flu-like symptoms on the train.
Beijing authorities are looking for people who were in close contact with Lu for medical observation, including Lu's relatives and girlfriend, clients and staff of the hotel where he stayed, as well as passengers on the same flight and train.
China's first confirmed A/H1N1 flu case was reported in the southwestern city of Chengdu on May 11. The sufferer was a 30-year-old man surnamed Bao who returned China on a Northwest Airlines flight from St. Louis, Missouri via Tokyo. More than 200 people who were in contact with Bao have been found and quarantined.
Also on May 13, Hong Kong confirmed its second case of the A/H1N1 flu, following its first case of a Mexican man reported on May 1. The new patient is a 24-year-old man who returned Hong Kong from the U.S. on May 11.
As of 14:00 May 12, the global death toll of the H1N1 influenza was 61, including 56 in Mexico, 3 in the U.S, 1 in Canada and 1 in Costa Rico. The number of confirmed cases was 5,271, up from the previously reported 4,694 on May 10.
