1958年出生于浙江省加善县西塘镇
1978-1982 杭州大学哲学系本科毕业，获学士学位
1982-1984 杭州大学哲学系助教
1984-1986 天津南开大学社会学系研究生班毕业
1986-1988 中国人民大学社会学所助教
1988-1992 中国人民大学行政学所讲师
1992-1994 中国人民大学行政学所副教授
1994 中国人民大学国际关系学院副教授
2004年中国人民大学国际关系学院教授
1995年2月－8月，英国纽斯卡尔大学访问学者
2000年2月-6月，美国丹佛大学访问学者
