Abstract: Since the United States put forward the idea of Theater Missile Defense in Northeast Asia, Japan has conducted a series of assessments on the proposal itself and then joined US in the research and development of ballistic missile defense. In July 2003, Japan finally decided to deploy TMD. This development marks the further strengthening of Japan-US alliance as well as a significant change in Japan’s security policy, and will produce huge impact on East Asian security.
