USING WISH; USING IF
People often make wishes when they want reality to be different, to be exactly the opposite
of (contrary to)the ture situation.
A noun clause* usually follow wish. Special verb forms are used in the noun clause. When a
Speaker expresses a wish about a present situation, s/he use a past verb form.
THE TRUE SITUASTION EXPRESSING A WISH ABOUT THAT SITUATION
I don't know how to dance a.I wish (that)I knew how to dance.
I don't have a bicycle. b.Iwish I had a bicycle.
Ron has to work tonight. c.Ron wishes he didn't have to work tonight.

The PAST PREFECT is used after wish when people make wishes about apast situation.
THE TRUE SITUATION MAKING A WISH ABOUT THE PAST
I didn't study for the test. a. I wish (that) I had studied for the test.
Jim didn't finish his work. b. Jim wishes he had finished his work.
