I think that if the air polution is bad then many top athletes will not want to perform. This is a possible game ender.

Is anyone else concerned about China? Silencing its people, restricting what we see, planting flowers to distract viewers from the absurd amount of pollution. Folks, let's not forget that less than 20 years ago, China's military killed 1,000 people in Beijing, and China has since erased that fact from all written record in its country. How can we tolerate this scrambling to hide the (past and present) truth?

I've been to Beijing in July. I can imagine there are more inhospitable places to do high-performance sports, but not many. Even without the man-made pollution, Beijing is extremely dusty because of the dust blowing in from the Gobi desert. Then there's the heat and humidity. Good luck to the athletes, especially the endurance runners. I hope the various Olympic committees have tested and cleared all the necessary asthma medications ahead of time. It's going to be a challenge for everyone. I'm even worried about the tv sportscasters who are going to have be standing in there in pancake makeup and suits.
