101.3. Ross:Why does everyone keep fixating on that? Remember:fixate on sth.
5. Rachel: I realized that I was more turned on by this gravy boat than by Barry! And then I got really freaked out, and that's when it hit me: how much Barry looks like Mr. Potato Head. 这句话里面有三个词组需要解释,第一个是turn on,也就是打开的意思,比如turn on the radio,这里是指让某人更兴奋激动的意思,想一想,平时在路上走,这时候有个sexy美女路过,你就可以说:wow, the gal really turns me on.第二个是freak out,这个词组很重要,几乎在每集都能听到,频率高的吓人,看来口语中很实用,在论坛上我看到以下几种解释,觉得不错,a.have an extreme reaction to sth b.act abnormally (under the influence of drugs) c.make S* feel extreme plaesure or unease,也就是表达焦躁害怕不安等情绪的意思。\r
6. Joey: You got screwed. \r
8. Ross: I assume we're looking for an answer more sophisticated than 'to get you into bed'. \r
9. Monica: It sucks. \r
10. Ross: Okay. (They split it.) You know you probably didn't know this, but back in high school, I had a, um, major crush on you. 这里又有一个经典的词组,have a crush on S*. \r
1. while you're on a roll, if you feel like you gotta make like a Western omelet or something...
2.Paul: Ever since she walked out on me, I, uh...
Monica: What?..... What, you wanna spell it out with noodles?
walk out on someone: 将someone抛弃 spell it out: explain it
6.Joey: (sitting on the arm of the couch)Of course it was a line!
Monica: Why?! Why? Why, why would anybody do something like that?
17.hang out here,呆在这
18.it' been kinda a long day,完成时态,因为RACH又逃婚,有被老爸骂,这一天过得很痛苦,所以也就很漫长。\r
be for the best I know it's hard for you to leave him, but it's for the best.
22Hit on S*. /come on to S*./pass at S*./crash on S*.与flirt with S*. \r
1. Rachel:Ohh,I was kinda hoping that wouldn't be an issue……
2.Joey:Here's a little tip,she really likes it when you rub her neck in the same spot over and over and over again until it starts to get a little red.
21.I take credit for Paul.
6.Chandler: Kinda puts that whole pillow thing in perspective, huh, Mon?“kinda”在片中出现的次数非常频繁,也是口语中非常实用的词语,意思是有一点儿,相当于kind of. \r
7.Monica: I know this is going to sound unbelievably selfish, but, were you planning on bringing up the whole baby/leS*ian thing? Because I think it might take some of the heat off me.Take some of the heat off S*,这里是帮Monica减轻压力的意思。\r
9.Mr. Geller: Look, there are people like Ross who need to shoot for the stars, with his museum, and his papers getting published.“shoot for”是争取、得到或完成的意思。\r
10. Ross: Well, you may wanna steer clear of the word 'dumped'. Chances are he's gonna be this, this broken shell of a man, y'know, so you should try not to look too terrific, I know it'll be hard. Or, y'know, uh, hey!, I'll go down there, and I'll give Barry back his ring, and you can go with Carol and Susan to the OB/GYN... “wanna”=want to,口语中常这样子简化,类似得还有”gonna”,就是going to得意思。 \r
12. Ross: 'S'funny, um, uh, we agreed we'd spend the rest of our lives together. Things change, roll with the punches. I believe Julia's on the table..?“roll with the punches”punch除了打孔机的意思之外,还有打击的意思,这里应该是说,让这些打击减轻一些吧(Roll就是滚的意思,那当然是减轻了)。
13.Chandler: I dunno, but.. I think it's about to attack the Enterprise. “dunno”是don’t know的缩写.
3.Phoebe: Monica- Hi! Um, Monica, you're scaring me. I mean, you're like, you're like all chaotic and twirly. And not-not in a good way.
Q:chaotic and twirly
6.chandler说monica:You don't get a lot of 'doy' these days
3.Phoebe: Monica- Hi! Um, Monica, you're scaring me. I mean, you're like, you're like all chaotic and twirly. And not-not in a good way.
Q:chaotic and twirly
6.chandler说monica:You don't get a lot of 'doy' these days
这是什么意思啊?'doy指什么? first people used to say "duh" which is a sound that indicated stupidity, but for a little while, it turned into "doy" which has the same meaning. it just SOUNDS stupid.
3、speaking of issues
8、up to me!——由我决定! Mathew plays tennis like a pro. mathew打网球很专业(像一个专业的网球player) 15.maid of honor伴娘, best man伴郎17.cheap shot shot是指她尝试做的那件事情, 比如give it a shot就是give it a try 那种做法有点贱, 贱就是便宜, 便宜就是 cheap 18."you've got me! 你难到我了". 19.Phigh-powered,driven career type指那种热衷于工作的人22.roll with the punches世事难料,兵来将挡\r
************************************************************************
103.1Joey: Yeah. Cushions the blow. 意思是take it easy.
4.Paula: Well, you do realise the odds of that happening are a little slimmer if they never get to meet the guy..odds这里的意思是可能的机会、几率,相当于Chance。 take the first shot”也值得记下,各种场合都可以用,“谁先来?”,呵呵,Antique的笔记那么臭,开批判会啦,who’s gonna take the first shot?
6. Ross: ...So I think Alan will become the yardstick against which all future boyfriends will be measured.
7. Chandler: So I have a flaw! Big deal! Like Joey's constant knuckle-cracking isn't annoying? And Ross, with his over-pronouncing every single word? Antique is so perfect,he has no flaw….,big deal单独用在某句话中多半表示反语或者反问,用的更常见的是no big deal.
8.Chandler: Hey, y'know, I have had it with you guys and your cancer and your emphysema and your heart disease. The bottom line is, smoking is cool, and you know it. “I have had it”是个常用句式,意思是我已经受够了。Bottom line是底线的以思,如果某人惹恼了你,你可以来一句,you have reach my bottom line.
3.Ross:The way he makes me feel about myself. \r
9.all over S*.
I'm all over you. I have a crush on you. Hey, look, the guy is dancing all over the girl. I'm over you.
I'm all over you 是完全不一樣的.
23.I stepped in gum. ...What is up with the universe?
F uck.
What is up with ...
24.the way they were“原来的样子”\r
2. Ross: Today's the day Carol and I first.. consummated our physical relationship. (Joey is puzzled.) Sex. ..You know what, I-I'd better pass on the game. I think I'm just gonna go home and think about my ex-wife and her leS*ian lover.另外一个词组是pass on sth,相当于let sth pass,它还有去世(相当于pass away)和传递的意思,有时候我们也可以说pass on my best wish to S*,请代为转达我最美好的祝愿。\r
4.check it out,就是"看那!" 10.light is still off 我们说关灯,他们是说"关光"的. 16.You got way too much free time. way too就是太怎么怎么样。 u r way too young to see that 17.I don't even have a 'pl'. Valentine's Day
************************************************************************
105。1. Ross: Not that big a deal? It's amazing. Ok, you just reach in there, there's one little maneuver, and bam, a bra right out the sleeve. All right, as far as I'm concerned, there is nothing a guy can do that even comes close. Am I right?
Rachel: Come on! You guys can pee standing up.
Chandler: We can? All right, I'm tryin' that.
Joey: Ok, you know what blows my mind? Women can see breasts any time they want. You just look down and there they are. How you get any work done is beyond me.
Phoebe: Oh, ok, you know what I don't get? The way guys can do so many mean things, and then not even care.
Joey 也发表意见说: “Ok, you know what blows my mind? Women can see breasts any time they want. You just look down and there they are. How you get any work done is beyond me. You’d better cherish the opportunity and don’t blow it. \r
最后Phoebe 说: “Oh, ok, you know what I don't get? The way guys can do so many mean things, and then not even care.”
2.Chandler: No, I know, but it's just so hard, you know? I mean, you're sitting there with her, she has no idea what's happening, and then you finally get up the courage to do it, and there's the horrible awkward moment when you've handed her the note.“get up the courage to do sth”,鼓足勇气做某事,类似的词组还有nerve oneself to do sth,be on one’s mettle to do sth, take heart of grace to do sth…
4. Ross: Ok, ok, now what is wrong with my Snuggles? What, it says I'm a sensitive, warm kinda guy, you know, like a little, fuzzy bear. Ok, I can pick something else up on the way.
Chandler: There you go.
There you go口语中也很常见,可用Here/There S* go的句式概括,一般就是表示赞同、赞赏的意思或者相当于here/there you are。\r
6. Phoebe: Ok, you can do this. It's just like pulling off a Band-aid. Just do it really fast, and then the wound is exposed. pull off是努力实现、赢得的意思,这里则是用了本意把绷带纱布拉掉的意思。 \r
. Rachel: Except it didn't. It happened to me. Oh, god, I'm gonna look like a big marshmallow peep。 \r
8. Ross: You were incredible! Brand new woman, ladies and gentlemen.
Rachel: I could not have done this without you.。 \r
9.You weren't there是老美常用的话,直译是"你又不在那里",实际的意思是"你又没看到","你又不知道",言下之意是"你无权评论你不知道的事情",其实chandler看到了整个过程,但由于有几米的距离间隔,所以phoebe认为她自己仍然可以理直气壮的说"u weren't there
106。11.Rachel: Really? Just casually strewn about in that reckless haphazard manner? Strewn about中,strewn是strew的过去式,about相当于around。3.back me up here=support me。
************************************************************************
107。1.Rachel: Wow, this is so cool, you guys. The entire city is blacked out! 关于black还有一些词组需要掌握,black and white:白纸黑字,类似的还有混淆是非(call/make black white);bule and white青一块紫一块;black book/list 黑名单等等。\r
Are you eligible to wirte the book about Friends?
3.Monica: OK, I'll go. OK, senior year of college... on a pool table。 \r
4.Ross: Probably. But you know, I'll tell you something. Passion is way overrated. He's been known to fly into a passion without warning. \r
6.Phoebe: (smiling) You betcha! Betcha=bet you=you bet,当然、真的、的确的意思。 \r
10.Ross: OK, guys, guys? I have the definitive one. Mwwwooooo-hah-hah...(The lights come back on, and Rachel and Paolo are making out. Ross clutches his chest.) 1.Si 意大利语Si = yes
************************************************************************
108.2.Monica: Okay, I-I d'know, you-you just- you have a quality。“you have a quality”你有一种气质,非常实用的一句表达\r
3.Aunt Lillian: The doctor says it's a matter of hours.“a matter of hours”=“a matter of time”,翻译成“这不过是时间早晚的问题”,注意推广到口语中的多个场景,比如It’s really a matter of hours for antique to become the president.
4.Ross: Oh! ...Yeah, they were gross. \r
7.Ross: Yeah, just... just Nana stuff.“stuff”这是口语中常见的词,往往用来指某未特殊标明的材料或者是东西家庭或个人用品的总称,形容人时候指说不出来的具体的言谈或行动,比如Don't give me that stuff about being tired. “some things are better left unsaid”,
7.life-affirming。giving you a positive and happy attitude about life
12.Pop-Pop=grandpa
109.2. Ross: Will you make the mashed potatoes with the lumps? \r
3. Monica: And I assume, Chandler, you are still boycotting all the pilgrim holidays. \r
4。“Not that I believe any of this”,这是一个强调句型,相当于I don’t belive any of this,在托福考试听力部分也常有这种用法。比如M:I hear the hocky game was packed. W:Not an empty seat in the house!Just standing room only. \r
5. Chandler: I'd just like to say that I'm totally behind this experiment. In fact, I'd very much like to butter your head.这里总结一下,表示支持、赞同有哪些表达方法,Chandler用了一个be behind S*/sth,其他的还有:agree with, go along with, back up,on the side of,support等等,当然了还有一个最简单地表达法:be with S*。\r
6. Monica: We all chipped in. chip in除了插嘴的意思之外,还有凑钱、捐款、赞助的意思。比如:I'm very sorry that I can only afford to chip in a few dollars this time. \r
7. Monica: (hands Chandler a bag) Chandler, here you go, got your traditional Thanksgiving feast, you got your tomato soup, your grilled cheese fixin's, and your family size bag of Funyuns. Rachel: Wait, wait, Chandler, this is what you're havin' for Thanksgiving dinner? What, what, what is it with you and this holiday? “fixin's”=fixings配菜,不解地问:你和这节日怎么回事呀?(what is it with you and this holiday),这句话应该熟记,以后有什么觉得好奇的时候,就不用生硬的去问what’s wrong 或者what’s the matter了。\r
11. Joey: Hey, I got one keyhole and about a zillion keys. You do the math。。 \r
12Propose a toase,祝酒。\r
************************************************************************
111.14.see you around下回见。
比如: tom: can you ask you a question, peter? peter: shoot.
************************************************************************113。1. Phoebe: I know, I know. So sweet... and so complicated. And for a shrink, he's not too shrinky, y'know? Shrink: 精神科医师;a physician who specializes in psychiatry Shrinky:神经质的。
4. Monica: Y'know, all these years, I thought you were on my side. But maybe what you were doing was sucking up to Mom and Dad so they'd keep liking you better!
Suck up to S*.: 讨好某人Laid out: get drunk; 喝醉了;
8. Monica: Hello, Joey. (She whips back the curtain to reveal Joey's dad)
Mr. Tribbiani: Oh! ...Hello, dear. (She whips the curtain shut in horror)
Whip: To take or move by a sudden motion; to jerk; to snatch;在这里我理解是“猛地拉开”。 shut in:笼罩在
